That looks like a great article. Printing it out now. Can't wait to read it!

When I couldn't find a good book that examined literary devices and included exercises so that readers (and writers) could try them out on their own, my first thought was, "This is an opportunity for someone. A hole that needs to be filled, a gap bridged." And I imagine so many different kinds of writers, not just poets but fiction, nonfiction, even news columnists could use these devices to spice up their copy!

Again, thanks for your response and the link!

Blessings,
Donna

Hi Donna,

I'm so glad you enjoyed this article! There aren't any books that come to mind, unfortunately, but perhaps we'll write our own guidebook to literary devices someday. :)

In the meantime, this article lists 65 devices, and the first 14 have exercises you can try. https://writers.com/common-literary-devices

Please let me know if I can provide anything else that might help you on your writing journey. Happy writing!

LOVED this article about wordplay. Is there a book that can help writers improve their craft by learning more about wordplay, practicing it, and coming up with their own word creations to enhance their writing? If there is, I have yet to find it in my Google searches. Any ideas/advice?

Also, any way I can get a copy of this article so that I refer to it over and over again?
