I really needed this today, thanks so much! I'm half way through first draft of my second book and worrying if I can pull it off and that I'm missing glaring points of genius in the plot and character arc. You've helped take the pressure off and remind me to trust myself and trust the story to unfold in its own way. There's little I love more than those moments when something completely unexpected comes out of me as a bang out my 'morning 600'. Yay creation!

Thank you for this article, Dennis. Over the years, I have started several novels only to cast them aside as my thoughts unravel. Although I've read many articles that encourage writers to just write and come back and fix it later, this time I feel like I'm finally ready to do that. Your article just underscores what I already know but have been unwilling to do. Very timely for me.

Thanks, Dennis, for this very encouraging article. I’ve been trying to write novels on and off since I was about eight years old, and every single time self-doubt has prevented me from making any significant progress. I’m currently taking a break from long fiction to work with shorter forms, in the hope that this will help me get over some of my creative blockages. But reading your article gives me a renewed sense of hope for my future novel-writing endeavours.
